Our Process

Site Analysis
We begin every project with an on-site consultation, followed by conceptual sketches. The aim is to take into account every aspect of your site, including:

  • Soil
  • Sun/shade balance
  • Topography
  • Wind direction and strength
  • Views (positive and negative)
  • Plant cover (native and exotics)
  • Habitat
  • Current structures (including traffic structures)
  • Damage (done by clearing, erosion, etc.)
  • Water management

CNL carefully takes all factors into account and produces a finished design that suits the needs of your site, your own vision, and your budget. And the design is communicated to you in the form of meticulous drawings and color renderings, showing every detail of your future landscape.

Upon approval of the overall design, CNL begins with the necessary first steps of careful grading and drainage. Then we proceed to the installation of hardscape elements: stone walls, walkways, driveways, terraces, fountains, patios…whatever the design may call for. Finally, we install the plantings, including trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials, vines, ferns and mosses.

At CNL we believe taking care of your landscape is not only essential, but one of the great satisfactions for owners. To that end, we instruct new owners in the proper care of their landscape. We’re available to help, too, with 1- or 2-year maintenance contracts upon request.

Carolina Native Landscapes has done two major landscaping projects for me, and I am thrilled with every aspect of both projects. Their designs have made outdoor living spaces that are inviting and beautiful. The hardscapes made difficult topography beautiful and easy to walk on. Their rock work truly is artistry in stone.
